Harnessing the power of great design tools to produce better signs and graphics

We’re always looking for new way to improve the quality of our designs. Almost seems as if we’re looking to “best” our best. That’s a great thing for our clients—great design makes any sign or graphic a highly effective marketing tool. Take that same sign, give it a poor design, and it’s effectiveness plummets. Here’s an example of using some of the tools at our disposal to take what could be a drab, basic display sign, into an attractive piece of promotion.

Investing in EFFECTIVE signage pays multiple dividends

All too often signs are thought of as more of a necessity than a marketing tool. And often, business owners consider that the best way to approach a sign project is to purchase and install the lowest cost sign possible—just to get the job done. Small business owners that are successful, however, often approach their signage differently. Like any other business promotion, signage will return the investment you make in it. Quite literally, buy a cheap sign, expect cheap results. The next time you drive by a “super plaza” with all of the major chains, notice the big, elaborate, and often hard fought for signs. Do they erect these simply because that have big budgets to spend? No, they do so because they have no choice but to perform well and be successful in their location. They’ve invested heavily in location scouting, build out, employees and stock. They need too move that stock. Much the same way your small business needs to keep things moving. Take a look at your signage and mobile advertising vehicle graphics, the message it conveys about your business, and the return it brings.

Here are a couple of shots of recently completed jobs that are working over time and providing added return on their investment.

VFW Dimensional, raised letter and digital print sign in the Sandpaper

VFW Sign sandpaper.jpg, originally uploaded by typestries.

This week’s Sandpaper featured a nice article on the dedication of the VFW post’s new sign. We completed this project a few weeks back—on one of the “warmer” days we’ve been lucky to have in between all of the cold. We created dimensional raised lettering on the Gerber Sabre CNC router and a dimensional logo cut to shape with a high resolution digital print vinyl face graphic. All elements were stud mounted to the building. The sign was dedicated in the memory of William Dondero—a truly great community minded individual who gave back tremendously to our island community.

Holiday event and sponsor recognition signs

Logan really enjoys coming in and checking out the machines. Here he’s showing off a print that is to be applied to a cut out Christmas Tree. The tree sits in the lobby of Sea Oaks. banquet center as a welcome sign and sponsor recognition sign for the LBI Rotary club holiday auction. We made the tree a few years ago, and simply make a new print with the current sponsors each year. By the way, that’s Molson in the shot (not Keys) – she’s getting so big! Stop in before she’s not a puppy anymore!

Custom sports car decals for school and recreational kids sports teams

We recently had a request for a run of 100 custom numbered football helmet car decals. Yes, that’s 100 different decals for the cars of the team players families. We’re able to complete projects like this quickly and affordably due to our vast array of printing and cutting technology. It’s amazing how quickly technology has progressed in our industry, to the point that just a few short years ago jobs such as these would have been difficult and cost prohibitive if produced in any more than just one color. Sure, you could get 100 screen printed decals with all the same art, but 100 individual pieces, of excellent image quality, has been traditionally tough to produce at a cost that’s attractive to many teams. We’re ready and able to produce your custom, short run, full color die cut decals. Give us a call!

Full Size People Cutouts

If you want a life size stand up of someone we can do that! Send us the picture to scan, or a digital file of your person, and we’ll print it out full size and put a stand on the back so it supports itself. Great for store displays, lobbies, photo opportunities and trade shows. A unique and effective way to convey your message….and for us, a whole lot of fun to make!

Monmouth University Student Government Logo Sign

Here’s a shot of a simple yet effective use of dimension and digital graphics. This identification sign is for the Monmouth University Student Government Association, (SGA) . The sign is mounted to the block wall with blind screws, silicone and 3M VHB tape, which is truly overkill for most settings, but perhaps not for a setting that sees as much traffic as this sign will. Although it’s light, at only five pounds, I wanted to make sure it was up there for good. If they ever paint they wall the painters will be in for a surprise! We crafted the sign from 3/4" and 1" gatorfoam with digitally printed face graphics. It’s a little tough to see in the shot, but there are two layers of graphics, which makes for a nice finished look. Add some dimension to your next project!
